Geneviève Dufour
Professor Geneviève Dufour has been selected to serve on the Sustainable Trade Impact Assessment (STIA) Advisory Group, established by Global Affairs Canada.

This Advisory Group aims to assess the potential effects of trade negotiations on individuals, communities, and the environment. Since 2025, all new trade negotiations are evaluated under this new framework. The Advisory Group is composed of representatives from women’s business organizations and other leading underrepresented groups; Canadian academics and experts in trade and gender, trade and environment, and trade and Indigenous peoples; national and regional Indigenous rights holders; and representatives from leading Indigenous business organizations and associations.

As a member of the Advisory Group, Geneviève Dufour will review drafts of STIA reports and provide advice on the potential social and environmental impacts of trade agreements. The government has thus created a group of experts tasked with commenting on these reports and guiding decision-making.

Professor Dufour’s research focuses on issues at the intersection of international trade law, the environment, and human rights. She has held the Chaire de recherche en droit du commerce durable, responsable et inclusif (Research Chair in Sustainable, Responsible and Inclusive Trade Law) at the University of Ottawa since 2023.
