Visiting Elective Student Fatima Abdulla (Khalifa University) and Preceptor Dr. Caolan Walsh
What an exciting summer it has been for Internationalization and Global Health at the Faculty of Medicine!

Here are just a sample of the activities which have taken place in June and July 2023 alone:

  • Thirty-three undergraduate medical students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine participated in-person in the 2023 SJTUSM-uOttawa Summer School, taking classes in Anthropology, Psychology and English as a Second Language;

  • The new uOttawa Faculty of Medicine Enhancement Year Program officially began on July 4, 2023! With seven students from Khalifa University (UAE) participating in its first year, this comprehensive and innovative program aims to prepare these recent medical graduates for success in North American residency programs;

  • The uOttawa Faculty of Medicine is hosting a total of three international medical elective students from Khalifa University, in addition to the four medical students from the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France), coordinated by the Faculty’s Francophone Affairs office

  • Eleven clinician-professors from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 participated in a one-week Medical Leadership Training Program, delivered by the Faculty’s own leadership expert and facilitator, Alexandre Messager;

  • Five uOttawa Faculty of Medicine students (four undergraduate medical students, and one student of the Master’s of Public Health) participated in an global health learning experience at our partner institution KCMUCo in Moshi, Tanzania.

  • The uOttawa Faculty of Medicine was once again chosen as one of the 11 in-person hubs in Canada to host the 2023 CASCADES Summer Institute on Sustainable Health Systems. Guided by Dr. Husein Moloo, Director of Planetary Health at the Faculty of Medicine, trainees developed their leadership and professional skills for creating sustainable health systems, learned valuable professional networking skills, and heard from sustainability experts across Canada.

The IGHO wishes to thank everyone involved in the above activities, and for their dedication to our Faculty's internationalization and global health efforts, one of the five priorities of the Faculty’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan: Leading Innovation for a Healthier World. (PDF, 7034KB)
