The Ottawa Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (OMARI) is a uOttawa hub for those interested in enabling responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to help solve real-world challenges, improve outcomes and strengthen our healthcare systems. Established in 2025 and housed within the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine, OMARI fosters collaboration with the university's six affiliated hospitals and brings together information, tools, opportunities and people to support responsible medical AI research, innovation deployment, in addition to education and training. Our vision is to:

  • Enhance AI education and ongoing training and development
  • Empower and enable medical AI research, collaboration across uOttawa and affiliated hospitals/institutes, and innovation deployment
  • Grow, leverage and attract new funding for medical AI at uOttawa

We are focusing on four pillars which represent the short-term objectives to address the most pressing challenges and questions: data, infrastructure, regulations and commercialization.
