LIFE Research Institute Annual Funding Competition

The LIFE Research Institute (LRI) is pleased to launch its seed funding competition for research projects that align with the Institute’s mandate, which aims to promote well-being, healthy aging and aging as a process involving social, economic and cultural aspects throughout life.

This annual competition open to LRI members. Its primary goal is to foster collaboration amongst LRI members and interdisciplinary; inter-faculty collaborations will be prioritized. These funds are intended to support the launch and testing of a new research project developed between two or more members of the LRI. Each project is going to be reviewed by the Research Committee for evaluation. The project selected that will be awarded 10 000 $, and LRI administrative support as needed.  

If you are awarded the funding, you agree to the following requirements:

  1. Present your project at the IRL Annual General Meeting following the date on which the funds are awarded.
  2. Submit a funding application for a larger-scale partnership to one of the Tri-Council agencies (i.e., CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC) within a maximum of two years of receiving funding from the IRL. 

Eligibility criteria

The applicants must

  • Hold a full-time position at the University of Ottawa and be a member of the APUO;
  • Be members of the LRI 

Application requirements

  • RE Form, duly completed and signed by the applicant and department chair;
  • Summary of the proposed research (maximum ½ page), including a brief description of the main elements indicating how this seed funding will contribute to the development of a strong proposal for larger-scale funding, confirmation of the intention to submit a partnership funding application to one of the three partner councils, and an explanation of how this proposal represents a new line of research compared with previously funded projects;
  • Research description (maximum 5 pages) organized according to the following mandatory categories:
    • Objectives
    • Background
    • Significance/impact and originality of the research
    • Methodology
    • Data collection, analysis, and reporting
    • Student training activities
    • Timeline
  • Bibliography (maximum 1 page);
  • Budget justification (maximum 1 page);

CV in OCGS or UniWeb (uoCV) format.
