Network Development Program

ELIGIBILITY

Researchers must meet the following condition:

• Be a regular, full-time University of Ottawa professor. This includes APUO professors, affiliated institute scientists and clinician scientists with an academic appointment at uOttawa at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.

BUDGET

The ND Program provides up to $15,000 for a two-year period. An additional minimum cash contribution of $5,000 is required (e.g. from your faculty, partner(s), other sources). The ND offers flexible expenses, but may not be used to pay for salaries, honorariums, or to buy equipment, software, or materials. If the project involves international travel, be aware of any additional fees or requirements, such as visas, and note them in the application.

Applications must be completed by the uOttawa researcher using the online application form. 

Please prepare your submission in advance and complete the application form in one sitting.

A complete application package includes:

• Project description and the complementarity with international partners including their research profile
• Planned activities and timeline;
• List of anticipated outcomes;
• Budget description;
• Short CVs (5 pages maximum) for applicant and lead partner(s);
• RE form: It is the responsibility of the researcher to complete the RE Form via eAwards and to gather the required signatures. Please plan accordingly as this step can take several days.

Applications will be evaluated on novelty and feasibility of the proposed network. Applications will also be evaluated on the expected impact of the network in the short- and long-term. ND projects must be aligned with the University’s Strategic Areas of Research and with one or more of the sub-areas.

All uOttawa researchers and international partners are subject to and must comply with the University's regulations and with policies, procedures, instructions, and directives (as may be amended from time to time):

• Responsible conduct of research and its related procedures;
• Ethics standards, regulations for research involving humans, animals, and animal care, as applicable;
• Training requirements (e.g. lab safety training, hazardous materials);
• Applicable laws, government rules, and policies governing the conduct of research activities in Canada and the partner country.

Research security refers to the actions that safeguard the integrity of research domestically and internationally and that protect against threats to national and economic security. In alignment with the Canadian government, uOttawa maintains a collaborative approach to protect research and innovation. International research collaborators must have low-risk profiles and must not be affiliated with, obtain funding from, or receive in-kind support from an institute on the Named Research Organizations list. This list comprises universities, research institutions, and laboratories connected to military, national defence, or state security entities that the federal government has determined could pose a risk to Canada’s national security.
