After you submit your application

  • After you submit your application, IRCC will process it. Monitor your email or online account for updates and additional requests from IRCC.
  • You can check the average processing time for a study permit extension application.

    As of October 2025, the average processing time for this type of application is approximately six months.
     

Study authorization after submission of application

  • You can continue to study (and work, if eligible) until IRCC makes a decision on your study permit extension application, provided you meet all of the following conditions:
    • You’ve applied for your study permit extension from within Canada.
    • You had a valid study permit at the time you submitted your application.
    • You’ll remain in Canada while IRCC is processing your application.
