Filling out the application

After you submit your application

  • After you submit your application, IRCC will process it. Monitor your email or online account for updates and additional requests from IRCC.
  • Processing times may vary depending on your country of residence and the time of year, so be patient while waiting for updates.

Working while waiting for a decision

  • You can work full time until IRCC makes a decision on your PGWP application if you meet all of the following conditions:
    • You’ve applied for your work permit from Canada (IMM 5710).
    • You had a valid study permit at the time you submitted your application.
    • You’ve completed your program of study.
    • You were eligible to work off campus without a work permit while studying, and you didn’t work more hours than allowed.
  • You’ll receive a submission confirmation letter acknowledging receipt of your PGWP application immediately after submission.
  • You should receive your WP-EXT for PGWP (IMM0127E) letter within two weeks of submitting your PGWP application. This letter proves that you’re authorized to continue working, even if the 180-day validity period has expired. If you haven’t received this letter, fill out the IRCC web form or call IRCC.
  • If you plan to travel outside Canada, you must have a valid visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA). Without a valid visa or eTA, you won’t be able to return (or travel) to Canada.
  • If you leave and re-enter Canada after applying for your PGWP, you can still work full time while waiting for a decision. Travelling outside Canada and returning doesn’t affect your ability to continue working full time during this period.
