The Lees Campus, located just south of the Queensway and next to the Rideau River, is a 10-minute walk or a 1-minute train ride from the main campus. For many years, this land served as an industrial area, but not long after World War II ended, with industrial activity decreasing, the Ontario government expropriated part of the land to build Highway 417. In 1964, Algonquin College took possession of the land that hadn’t been expropriated. Then, in 2007, the University of Ottawa bought the land and existing buildings from the college to make room for a number of administrative and academic units, including the Faculty of Health Sciences. In 2012, through a partnership with the City of Ottawa, the University completed a construction and renovation project that included Gee Gees Field, which is used primarily by the University’s Gee-Gees football team and which has a seating capacity of more than 3,400. The site also provides the Gee-Gees with dedicated locker rooms, offices for coaching staff, and a sports therapy clinic.
