Visitorships at the Institute of Indigenous Research and Studies are currently on hold.

The former Institute of Canadian and Aboriginal Studies hosted many visiting student researchers through a visitorship program. Currently, visitorships with the Institute of Indigenous Research and Studies are on hold due to a re-evaluation of the visitorship program and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please visit this site for updates on when the visitorship program resumes and begins accepting applications.

Did you know that Item 2.9 in uOttawa’s Indigenous Action Plan framework is to create a visiting Indigenous scholars program? The goal of this initiative is to create research visitorships for Indigenous scholars and community researchers. Learn more at: Hoop 2: Faculties, departments, programs

The University of Ottawa also runs a Visiting Student Researcher (VSR) Program. If you are interested in registering as a visiting scholar in a department other than IIRS, visit the VSR program for more information.

Indigenous Affirmation

We pay respect to the Algonquin people, who are the traditional guardians of this land. We acknowledge their longstanding relationship with this territory, which remains unceded.

We pay respect to all Indigenous people in this region, from all nations across Canada, who call Ottawa home.

We acknowledge the traditional knowledge keepers, both young and old. And we honour their courageous leaders: past, present, and future.
