Pitchfest perfect

A collaboration between Professor Ryan Graham's research team and Celestra Health Systems wins the top prize at SAAS North Pitchfest, an annual competition where software start-up companies pitch their ideas to a crowd of investors and entrepreneurs. Together, they are developing wearables for clinicians to remotely monitor gait and balance in individuals living with neurological disorders.
Tackling the housing crisis

The Decision for Affordable/Social Housing (DASH) team is an academic (Faculties of Health Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Management) and community (Alliance to end Homelessness Ouest, which represents over 75 organizations) partnership. Led by Professor Katherine Sauvé-Schenk, the team is developing a national dashboard providing real-time data on housing supply and needs. The evidence generated through this tool will support decision-making for communities. The project received the 2025 Excellence in Community-Campus Research Partnership Honourable Mention, highlighting how this technical innovation is creating immediate impact for both policies and housing allocation.
Focus on the needs of people living with Parkinson’s disease

Professor Julie Nantel studies the role of the upper limbs on postural control, which may be affected by neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Her findings have led her to initiate partnerships with Boxing4Health to tailor programs to improve stability for people living with Parkinson’s disease, as well as with other academics to develop new wearables to predict and mitigate motor blocks and falls. But Professor Nantel’s ultimate partners are the research participants with whom she engages to understand their questions and needs.
Healing in harmony

The Music and Health Research Institute and the Mental Health Research Institute at The Royal have partnered to explore the potential of participatory music programs to enhance the health and well-being of adults living with mental health disorders. This documentary highlights a few of the programs implemented and their impact on the lives of participants.
