Empowering Ontario's francophone nurses and tackling workforce issues

Professor Michelle Lalonde was appointed as the University of Ottawa/Institut du Savoir Montfort Joint Chair on the Health of Francophones in Ontario. The new research Chair aims to empower Ontario’s Francophone nurses and address workforce challenges.

Laureate of the 2024 Acfas Gilles-Paquet Prize

Professor Jacinthe Savard's research program focuses on two main areas: access to health and social services in a minority-language context, and training professionals to offer services in French. She co-founded GReFoPS (Groupe de recherche sur la formation et les pratiques en santé et service social en contexte francophone minoritaire), a productive interdisciplinary research unit dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of those living in French minority-language contexts.

Professor Sathya Karunananthan

Breaking barriers: Driving equitable health-care for Quebec’s English-speaking communities

This large initiative, led by Professor Sathya Karunananthan, will explore the impact of language discordant health-care delivery for minority English-speakers in Quebec, including recent immigrants. The project proposes to co-create a health atlas with community partners, gathering evidence to influence policy and improve healthcare access and outcomes through collaborative efforts.

Optimizing care for children with language disorders

Professor Daniel Bérubé explores language development in monolingual, bilingual, or multilingual children, which may not always follow a linear progression. His research program aims to develop new assessment tools for early identification of children who may exhibit prolonged language development. His work helps speech-pathologists to implement early interventions to support language skills acquisition.
