A dual fast-track degree offers an accelerated route to graduate education, allowing you to complete both an undergraduate and a master’s degree in less time than traditional pathways. In this case, you will benefit from early involvement in research, close mentorship from faculty researchers, and advanced training in food sciences, nutrition and food biosciences.

This integrated pathway combines the Honours BSc in Food Sciences with the MSc in Nutrition and Food Biosciences. You will complete the requirements of the undergraduate program while progressively transitioning into graduate-level learning and research.

The Food Sciences program provides a strong foundation in food production, food chemistry, food safety, microbiology, nutrition and health. You will explore how food is produced, processed and evaluated, and how it influences human health and well-being.

Building on this foundation, the MSc in Nutrition and Food Biosciences focuses on advanced research and scientific inquiry. You will investigate current challenges related to nutrition, food systems and food biosciences while developing the skills required for independent research and thesis work.

Admission and retention requirements

The dual fast-track degree is intended for highly motivated students with strong academic records and an interest in research. Admission and retention requirements include:

  • A minimum admission average of 85% for entry into the integrated pathway
  • Maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 8.5 throughout the program
  • Written confirmation from a faculty member willing to supervise your research and thesis
  • Demonstration of English-language proficiency, if required
  • All BSc courses are offered in French or English.
  • All MSc courses are offered in English (except for SSP 6009 and THM 7999)

Important: Admission to the dual fast-track degree does not guarantee admission to the MSc portion of the program. You must meet all the admission requirements for the graduate program.

If you leave the fast-track pathway

You must continue to meet the program’s academic requirements to remain in the integrated pathway. If you do not maintain the required cumulative grade point average, you may be transferred to the regular Honours BSc in Food Sciences program. You may also request a transfer to the regular undergraduate pathway, subject to academic regulations.
