The Faculty of Medicine’s Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CiMED) offers a variety of educational events throughout the year.

OCTANE faculty development program

This interactive, case-based session brings professionalism out of the abstract and into real scenarios drawn from clinical and educational practice. Together, we will explore grey zones, develop confidence in identifying and addressing lapses, and learn how to support a respectful and inclusive workplace. This session is suited to all faculty members, especially front-line teachers and educational leaders committed to fostering excellence in the learning environment.

Rounds and Journal Club

This accredited educational series is geared towards practical skill development for front line faculty teachers. Sessions will be held virtually once a month on a Monday from 4:30-5:30pm. These rounds are open to all teaching faculty affiliated with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine.

These sessions will provide a forum for discussion of medical teaching challenges, promote awareness and discussion of the medical teaching literature, and foster a community of practice.

Leadership Round Tables for Medical Educators

These sessions are designed for individuals involved or planning to be involved in Medical Education leadership (e.g., program directors, course directors, unit leads, etc…) who wish to enhance their leadership and management skills.

These round tables provide a safe environment to discuss challenges and successes while exploring best practices and practical tools with your peers. The facilitator, Ayoub Chobah, is a coach in personal development and leadership at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa.

Even if each session is a stand-alone session, these roundtables have been designed to explore the most common challenges you are likely to face in your leadership journey. So we encourage you to participate in the whole series. Participation in 5 sessions: Tier 1 Certificate in Leadership Round Tables. Participation in 8 sessions: Tier 2 Certificate in Leadership Round Tables.

CiMED Medical Education Days

Thank you to all who attended the CIMED Medical Education Days - May 28-29, 2026

The CiMED Medical Education Days were a huge success! We had over 100 registrants for the Faculty Development Day on May 28 and almost 120 registrants for Meredith Marks Medical Education Research Day on May 29.  We welcomed participants from institutions across the region including The Ottawa Hospital, Montfort, Queensway Carleton Hospital, The Royal, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Bruyère Health Élisabeth-Bruyère Hospital, Medical council of Canada, The Royal College, Kemptville District Hospital, and community family practice; participants affiliations ranged across departments including basic sciences (Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Department of Innovation in Medical Education, Cellular and Molecular Medicine), Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine,  Surgery, Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care, Pediatrics, PharmD, Psychiatry, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, Faculty Relations, and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Deepest gratitude to all of our participants for their amazing engagement and enthusiasm. This event generated enthusiastic conversations and inspired collaborations across programs and institutions! 

Many thanks to all presenters for inspiring plenaries and wonderful presentations showcasing research and innovation in medical education. This event was made possible on account of the efforts of the planning committees and the Office of Continuing Professional Development.

An impressive amount of scholarship was also featured at Meredith Marks Medical Education Research Day, with 24 oral presentations and 22 posters displaying a wide range of education research across our institution. CiMED is proud to support so much amazing work!
