Step 3: Verify admission requirements

Make sure to review all the admission requirements for your program. Each program has its own criteria, such as prerequisite courses, documents, or language requirements. Understanding these details ahead of time will help you submit a complete and successful application.

Direct admission into a doctoral program

Where permitted by specific doctoral programs, applicants who demonstrate advanced research ability may be granted direct admission to a doctoral degree program without completion of a master's degree. A supervisor must be secured prior to application and support from the supervisor for direct admission must be provided.

Step 4: Language requirements

You must be able to understand and speak the language of the program you’re applying to. Most courses at the Faculty of Medicine are taught in English, French or both. Therefore, you must be proficient in the language of instruction for your program to be admitted. If requested, you will need to provide results from a language proficiency test approved by the University of Ottawa. Language requirements are based on the country where you completed your previous studies, not your citizenship.

Step 7: Submit your application

You’ve chosen your program, checked the requirements, and gathered your documents—now you’re ready to apply!

All applications for Ontario universities, including the University of Ottawa, are submitted through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). If you don’t already have an account, you’ll need to create one before you begin.

Important:

Once you’re signed in to your OUAC account, you’ll be asked to enter your personal information. Make sure to use a valid email address so you can receive updates from the University. If you already have a uOttawa email address, all messages will be sent there. To reactivate your uOttawa email, submit a Service Desk Request with Information Technology.

Before submitting your application, review all your information carefully to make sure it’s complete and accurate. You must declare all past and current postsecondary studies. This includes studies not yet completed and studies not related to the program you’re applying to. Not declaring this information may lead to your application or admission offer being cancelled.

Step 8: Pay the application fees

Before we can receive your application, you must pay the non‑refundable application fees on the OUAC website. You’ll see the full amount listed under “Total amount owing.” After you submit your application, OUAC will send you an email confirming that it was received.

If you’re an international student and have questions, our official international recruitment team is here to help.

Important:

It may take up to 7-10 business days following your online submission and payment of the application fee to OUAC for the University of Ottawa to receive your application. Once received, an email is automatically sent from the University of Ottawa. The email contains your student number, uoAccess login and password that you will need to access your uoZone portal.
