At the University of Ottawa, enhancing the student experience and supporting our students toward achieving their research aspirations are important priorities.

The faculty and departments recognize the excellence of their students by awarding Special merit scholarships.

No application is required. You are automatically considered at the time of admission for a Special Merit Scholarship. If you are selected, you will receive a scholarship offer with your admission.

This scholarship is not applicable to: Masters with Research Project, Master in Public Health (see below for MPH specific merit scholarship), Master of Applied Science in Anatomical Sciences Education, Microprograms, and Graduate Diploma programs

The University of Ottawa is proud to offer a scholarship program that recognizes the excellence of its students by providing an admission scholarship of a minimum value of $ 72,000 for a period of four (4) years.

An admission scholarship may be given to Canadian students, permanent residents, protected persons or members of a diplomatic corps and to international students admitted to a doctoral program. Students must have an admission average of 8.0 / 10 or higher and register full-time without interruption for the duration of the scholarship (12 consecutive terms).

This financial support has two components:

• A scholarship of $ 9,000 per year, paid by the Office of the Vice-Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in payments of $ 3,000 / term for the first 12 consecutive terms.
• A second component offered by the academic unit in the form of assistantships or internal scholarships of a minimum value of $ 9,000 per year for four years. Please consult your academic unit for more details.

Note

Students who receive a scholarship from an external source (e.g., CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, OGS, FRG, CSC), will receive or continue to receive the first component of the Admission Scholarship. However, if a second component is offered by their academic unit or another internal source, it will be optional for the period of validity of the external scholarship. The total value of the second component can therefore be reduced accordingly. Decisions are made by each faculty.

This scholarship is intended for international doctoral students. An important contribution to the financing of their studies.

As of May 2023

A value of $45,000 over five (5) years, the International Doctoral Scholarship supports full-time international students, admitted in May 2023 or beyond, during their doctoral studies. A maximum value of $3,000 per term, for 15 consecutive terms, will be credited to the student account. Please note that the scholarship will only be paid if international tuition fees are charged.

Before May 2023

If you began your full-time doctoral studies at uOttawa before May 2023 and you’ve received the International Doctoral Scholarship, your tuition fees are equivalent to those for Canadian students residing outside Ontario.

NB This scholarship cannot be combined with the Differential Tuition Fee Waiver or the Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship.

This scholarship recognizes emerging clinician-scientists, educators, and healthcare innovators who demonstrate exceptional leadership, academic achievement, and potential to improve health outcomes through research, quality improvement, education, or health systems transformation.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Apply for admission to the MSc Clinical Science and Translational Medicine program;
• Be an international medical fellow  
• Register in the program on a part-time basis with Fall admission;
• Submit a complete scholarship application a month prior of the year of expected admission (based on the admission term).

Value and Number of Awards

The value and number of awards vary from year to year and depend on available funding. Awards are offered competitively and are issued at the time of admission.

This bursary offers support to Indigenous students admitted to the Master’s of Public Health (MPH) program.

Eligibility criteria

• be a Canadian citizen with Indigenous identity, in accordance with the requirements of the University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure;
• be enrolled full time in the first term in the Master of Public Health program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa; and
