The Berkman Library provides onsite research and references services to staff and current students of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). Book an appointment with the librarian.

Literature searching & search alerts

Librarian-designed literature searches to support decision-making, clinical care and/or research planning. The librarian can also help you create personalized search alerts on topics that interest you in databases like PubMed.

Article and book procurement

We can obtain most articles or books you require for your research.

Training

Personal or group training on: searching various databases, finding full-text articles, reference management software (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero), Covidence, research impact metrics, open access publishing, etc.

Research support

We are onsite to help you with all your research needs. Come visit us in the library or invite us to your office! Our librarian is an experienced systematic review searcher. Contact us for support in question refinement, search strategy development, and review management software.

The Berkman Library is accessible to staff and current students of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute by employee swipe card 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The library is equipped with:

Wireless access is available within the library for staff and current students of UOHI. To set up a wireless connection, or if you have any questions contact the UOHI IT help desk.

Photocopiers, printers and scanners

A multi-function printer/photocopier/scanner is connected to the Library computers for patron use

Library rules

The library serves as a shared resource for all. It seeks to maintain a positive and productive work environment. The following provides guidance for users and staff about the behaviour expected at the library.

• Borrowing: Materials removed from the library must be signed out using the card provided inside the book front or back cover. Print your full name in a legible hand. Cards can be left with library staff or slide under the librarian's door. Items can be returned to library staff, or deposited in the drop box outside the library's door.

• Food and drinks: Please do not eat or drink near the computers to help keep the space clean. Please clean up after yourself and dispose of your garbage.
• Noise: Please speak quietly. Set ringers to vibrate and leave the library to talk. Call-backs for pagers can be made using the phone outside the library's door. Noise-producing devices should be used with earphones.
• Workspaces: Workspaces are provided for educational and research purposes only. Computers and carrels left unattended for extended periods will be made available for others by library staff. The Library is not responsible for personal effects left unattended.
