Overview
Status: Closed
The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, invites uOttawa researchers working in areas spanning all of the University’s Strategic Areas of Research to apply via their faculties for two research chairs on the Francophonie in Canada, offered through the uOttawa Chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone program.
Goals of the program chairs
- Uphold and strengthen the University of Ottawa’s tradition of excellence in research on the Francophonie in three specific geographical areas: in Ontario, across Canada and around the world.
- Promote research on the Francophonie that ties into the University’s Strategic Areas of Research.
- Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in research on the Francophonie.
- Foster the development and inclusion of new scholars conducting research on the Francophonie, both locally and beyond, at every level of study (master’s and PhD students, postdocs, interns, researchers, professors).
- Ensure the internal and external visibility of the chairs’ research activities, including through knowledge mobilization.
Topic
The Collège des Chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone comprises three chairs on the Canadian Francophonie, including the Canadian Francophonie Research Chair in Language Rights. The Collège is seeking to endow two chairs in a complementary field and to open up to new fields of research.
In essence, the topic for the chairs is open, and we expect that nominees will propose innovative research programs to help us better understand the issues facing the Francophone world.
Proposed research programs must:
- align with the mandate of the chosen federal agency (NSERC, CIHR or SSHRC)
- align with one or more of the University’s Strategic Areas of Research
- foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and diversity by committing to improve the diversity of our chairholders in the four designated groups
Each faculty is allowed to submit two nominations. The program steering committee will assess the nominations and submit recommendations to the University of Ottawa Research Chairs Evaluation Committee, which will make a final decision.
Eligibility criteria and mandate
Notice of decision
Following the RCEC’s final recommendation, a notice of decision will be sent to the successful nominee and to the dean of the Faculty concerned. There is no appeal.
Teaching release
CRMF program chairholders may be eligible for teaching release of a single one-term course (two or three credits) per year, as negotiated with the dean of the Faculty.
End of term
The University will allow two additional years from the end date of the chair’s term in order to expend any residual funds. No further extensions will be granted.
