How to apply

The University of Ottawa participates in two of these scholarship programs:

If you want to come to uOttawa through a Global Affairs Canada scholarship, the application process depends on whether you’re planning to take academic courses or conduct research during your stay.

Application deadlines

Applications are now closed for the 2026-2027 Global Affairs Canada scholarships.

Don't miss these key deadlines:

  • March 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST: The deadline to apply for a Global Affairs Canada scholarship
  • March 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST: The deadline to apply to the uOttawa Incoming Exchange Program (if you wish to enrol in courses at uOttawa)

Documents required

The following required documents apply to both scholarships and must be submitted in PDF format:

  • Proof of citizenship: This means a copy of your passport with valid dates and a photo. No other proof of citizenship will be accepted.
  • Proof of full-time enrolment: This is a letter in English or French from your home institution, on official letterhead and dated within the last six months. It confirms that you’re currently enrolled in a full-time program and will continue to be enrolled upon your return (maximum one page). The letter must clearly state:
    • your program type and level of study at your home institution
    • your full-time enrolment status at your home institution
    • the anticipated completion date of your degree at your home institution

      Note: Copies of transcripts, a student card or a letter of admission are not acceptable.

  • Letter of intent from you: Written in English or French, this letter explains the nature of your planned study or research; the rationale for coming to Canada and for your choice of institution, program and (for research) supervisor; and the way the proposed research relates to your future career (maximum one page). Include your full name and email address at the end of the letter.
  • Letter of support from your home institution: Written in English or French by your instructor, professor or international director, on the institution’s official letterhead, this letter explains the nature of your planned study or research in Canada and the ways you and your home institution will benefit from this scholarship program (maximum one page). The author must include contact information in the letter (title, full name, email address, mailing address).
  • Letter of invitation from your Canadian supervisor (for research): This letter from your Canadian supervisor indicates their willingness to support and mentor you. The letter must be on uOttawa letterhead, in English or French, and signed. It must describe the nature and scope of the research collaboration with your home institution, the support you’ll receive during the exchange period and the ways the University, supervisor and peers will benefit from the exchange (maximum one page). The supervisor must include contact information (title, full name, email address, mailing address) and the approximate dates of your stay in the letter.
  • Privacy Notice Statement: You must sign and date a copy of the Privacy Notice Statement: Non-Canadian Participants.

Additional documents required for the ELAP scholarship:

  • Your current degree transcripts in English or French: These must span from your first year to your current year of study and include the grading scale. If your transcripts are in a language other than English or French, you must provide a scanned copy of the original document and a translation completed by a certified translator.

Please be sure to follow these instructions closely. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

All documents for the scholarship application must be sent to the anticipated host faculty (for research) or to the Student Mobility team (for study) at uOttawa by March 5, 2026.
