Tuition fees waiver

May 6, we announced that all Algonquin students who are registered members of any of the 10 federally-recognized Algonquin First Nations in Ontario and Quebec can now enrol for any undergraduate, master's or doctoral program at uOttawa free of tuition fees.

Admissibility criteria

To be eligible to receive tuition fee support from the University, an individual must meet the following requirements: as of September 1, 2025, be enrolled in an undergraduate, master's or doctoral program of study at the University of Ottawa; and be a registered member of one of the federally recognized Algonquin First Nations in Ontario and Quebec.

The tuition fee support applies only to University of Ottawa tuition fees for the eligible students’ program of study. For clarity, this support does not apply to University of Ottawa ancillary, administrative, incidental, and other fees incurred by students during their program of study.
In recognition of the tuition fee support provided by the University of Ottawa, the Algonquin First Nation agrees to inform and promote the University of Ottawa tuition fee support.

Eligible students can only come from the 10 recognized first nations. Students do not apply directly to the university, they apply through their first nation, and the first nation submits the list of eligible students to the university.
The First Nations are: Kebaowek, Kitcisakik, Long Point/Winneway, Pikogan/Abitibiwinni, Pikwakanagan, Rapid Lake/Barrière Lake, Timiskaming, Wolf Lake, Lac Simon, and Kitigan Zibi.
