Here are highlights of the events taking place at the University of Ottawa from April 16 to 20, 2024:

Launch of Cinema Van, propagande et résistance en Afrique coloniale
WHEN: Tuesday, April 16 from 7 p.m.
WHERE: University of Ottawa Press, Studio; in person.
A discussion on the influence of educational screenings on colonized African populations moderated by Professor Marie-Claude Thifault. (In English and French)


Fighting for #aHand2Hold: Confronting Medical Colonialism against indigenous children in Canada
WHEN: Wednesday, April 17 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: Roger Guindon HallAtrium; in person and virtual. 
Dr. Shaheen-Hussain, author of the award-winning book "Fighting for A Hand to Hold: Confronting Medical Colonialism against Indigenous Children in Canada," will lead a discussion on the persistent issues of medical colonialism and systemic racism in healthcare, with a focus on the 2018 #aHand2Hold awareness campaign. What Mom Didn’t Tell Me: Perimenopause, Women’s Health, and Career Management
WHEN: Wednesday, April 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE: University of Ottawa Press; in person.
Madeline Toubiana, Associate Professor at the Telfer School of Management and the Desmarais Chair in Entrepreneurship, leads an enlightening talk on one of the most taboo M’s and how to balance navigating the complexities of women’s health with career progress.


Book launch: Internal Swelling Reactions in Concrete
WHEN: Thursday, April 18, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: STEM Complex (STM), Room 224; in person.
Dr. Sanchez’ expertise is related to the development of sustainable concrete materials and concrete durability, especially the diagnosis and prognosis of concrete affected by Internal Swelling Reactions (ISR). His new looks at deterioration caused by internal swelling reaction mechanisms in concrete. Digital Empires: The Global Battle to Regulate Technology

Join us for a conversation with Prof. Anu Bradford on the regulatory approaches governing the digital economy and how governments and technology companies navigate inevitable conflicts. (In English)


Enhancing Access to Care: Breaking Boundaries Together
WHEN: Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WHERE: The RA Centre; in person.
Hosted by the Brain and Mind Research Institute, the event will consist of talks designed to help people living with neurodegenerative conditions and their care partners (especially in underserved populations like Indigenous communities, rural residents, 2SLGBTQ+, etc) to be able to better access care. Art School Confidential celebrates five decades of Visual Arts, representing the work of 50 artists who have taught and studied in the historic building located at 100 Laurier East since 1974. (In English and French)


ACFAS Conference

WHERE: University of Ottawa.
The University of Ottawa will host the 91st Annual ACFAS Conference, where more than 6,000 participants are expected for the biggest scientific conference of the Francophonie, in which over 300 sessions on various research disciplines will be presented.
