In exceptional circumstances, the School of Social Work may allow an intervention internship (TSO 5601) or a research-intervention internship (TSO 6601) to take place within the organization where the student is employed.

In exceptional circumstances, a student could be authorized to complete a placement in their workplace. It is clearly agreed with the host organization that, for the duration of the internship, the student rights and responsibilities take precedence over those of the employee.

Host organizations interested in receiving students who are their employees must be prepared to meet the following conditions:

  • The placement must comply with all requirements applicable to all field placements;
  • the student must hold a position or perform tasks different from the ones assigned or accomplished in their regular work;
  • the student must be supervised by a person other than their supervisor during their regular work duties;
  • the person supervising the placement and the host organization understand and agree that the focus will be on the learning experience rather than the student's regular work experience;
  • the placement supervisor and the host organization understand and agree that the student will have to meet all the requirements normally required for a field placement, including attending the seminar course, completing the requested academic work and participating in weekly supervision sessions.

Unanimously adopted by the Graduate Studies Committee on April 27, 2007 and unanimously adopted by the School Assembly on October 22, 2007.
