M.A. COOP Program in Economics – Language requirement

Registration period: September 16 at 00:00 EST to September 25 at 23:59 EST. Registration for the test will only be confirmed once the payment has been submitted. Further test details will be sent.

Requesting access to the test: The test is scheduled on the weekend in late September or early October,starting with the writing component, followed by the speaking component. Candidates will be contacted with the exact date and time of their test.

During the registration period, follow the instructions to our online platform to request the following test:

     M.A. COOP Program in Economics - English Writing Test yyyy : where yyyy is the year of the current fall session.

Choose the steps for You are a uOttawa applicant

• Click on the tab "take the test"
• Scroll down to the hyperlink uolangtest

• Use your @uottawa.ca and the password to access the platform.

• Find the test name in the activity list and click Request access

Make sure to use Chrome on a computer when taking the test – tablets and phones are not compatible. Cancellation Policy: Students who cancel more than five business days prior to the test session will receive a refund, less a $50.00 administration charge. Students who cancel less than five business days before the testing session will not receive a refund. All requests to cancel registration for a test must be emailed to [email protected].

N.B. If you do not have a @uottawa.ca user ID, please contact the IT service and include your student number in order to request one.

Test results are only valid for internal University of Ottawa purposes. These scores will not be reported to any other group.

Applicants will receive an email within 5-10 business days following the test with their test results. A copy of their results will also be sent to the COOP Office to be added to their application by October 11, 2023.

The test is administered in two parts:

1. Writing tests:  8:30 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m. EST. These tests are administered on our online testing platform and will be proctored via Zoom.

2. Interview Scheduling: from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. EST following the written test.
   Fifteen-twenty-minute interviews are scheduled in the order in which the registrations are received. Regrettably, we cannot accommodate special requests. The interviews will also take place via a Zoom session.

Photo ID: You are required to show your photo identification prior to the written test and again prior to the speaking interview.

Material during the test: Candidates may take notes during the exam, but MAY NOT use dictionaries, correctors or translation tools of any kind, whether it be printed, electronic or in consultation with a third party. It will not be possible to cut and paste from another application into the testing platform.
