Formation à l’enseignement (BEd)

The recent changes to teacher education announced by the Ministry of Education will affect the information found on this page. New program starts May 2027. 

With the Bachelor of education:  Formation à l’enseignement or Teacher Education program, you can shape your journey to fit your goals and lifestyle. Study part time virtually, full-time on the campus that works best for you or virtually, and choose the division you want to teach, from kindergarten to grade 12 in French or in English.

The bachelor of education (B.Ed.) is accredited with the Ontario College of Teachers OCT.

Program options and structure

The Formation à l’enseignement program at the Ottawa, Windsor and Toronto campuses and virtually of the University of Ottawa prepare students to teach in Ontario's French-language schools

The Teacher Education program at the Ottawa campus prepare students to teach in Ontario's English-language schools (see the respective program for more information). The French as a Second Language option is available at all three divisions.

Kindergarten students

Primary/Junior division (P/J)

The P/J division prepares you to teach Kindergarten to Grade 6 in Ontario's French-language schools.

It provides you with skills in teaching and learning methods for all subjects, including French, mathematics, social studies, science, arts, health and physical education.

No prerequisite courses required.

Junior/Intermediate division (J/I) (in person and online)

The J/I division prepares you to teach grades 4 to 10 in Ontario's French-language schools.

You must choose an academic options from among the teachable subjects.

Campus Ottawa
Étudiants d'école sécondaire

Intermediate/Senior division (I/S)

The I/S division prepares you to teach in both middle school (grades 7 and 8) and high school (grades 9 to 12). in Ontario's French-language schools.

You must choose two academic options from among the teachable subjects.

Full time program - 45 units

The program will begin in the spring/summer term starting in May 2027.

Part time program - 60 units

The program will begin in the summer term starting in July 2027. The program is under review for the academic year 2028.

Key elements: Full details under the admission requirements

  • Submit an application, upload non-official transcripts
  • Minimum average 66 % (count for 60 % of the admission decision)
  • Acknowledgement receipt of your application via email with username and password to access your student portal
  • Register / Pass a Casper test (count for 40% of the admission decision)
  • Register / Pass a proficiency French language test
  • Meet the minimal requirements of 70 % in the teaching subject and the minimal number of courses for the J/I and I/S divisions (consult the teaching subject chart)

Formation à l’enseignement graduates can teach in francophone schools at the elementary or secondary level, work in specialized education, or pursue roles in curriculum development, educational technology, and leadership.
