This work is conducted in the spirit of institutional leadership, strategic partnership development and continuous improvement, contributing to the Faculty’s influence and fulfilment of Francophone Affairs’ mission.
The position is part of a long-term approach to structuring the operations of Francophone Affairs.
Description of portfolio/responsibilities
Strategic leadership on CME in French
- Provide strategic oversight for CME in French, in line with the mission, priorities and directions of Francophone Affairs and the Faculty of Medicine.
- Set out major annual and multi-year directions for CME in French, drawing on analysis of the perceived and unperceived needs of Francophone health-care professionals.
- Help to develop the institutional vision for CME in French as a driver of social accountability, quality of care and academic influence.
CME structure, governance and planning
- Develop and oversee annual planning for CME in French (approximately 15 activities per year), ensuring consistency, complementarity and prioritization of activities based on strategic directions, available resources and emerging issues.
- Provide academic governance for CME activities, including identification of educational objectives, content quality and alignment with accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Professional Development and the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CiMED) to identify shared themes and objectives in medical education and faculty development.

Mandate
The Faculty director, Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS), provides Faculty-wide leadership, consistency and alignment for clinical and training activities conducted in the CNFS stream of the medical program, under the leadership of Francophone Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine.
The incumbent works closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education team to ensure that CNFS stream activities are incorporated into the medical education program and that students admitted through the CNFS stream are properly supported throughout their studies.
In this role, the incumbent is supported by two regional sub-branches (eastern and western), each led by a CNFS Faculty lead, who is responsible for implementing the CNFS clinical and training activities in that region.
If only one Faculty lead position is filled, that lead will cover all duties for both regions, in line with the directions set by the CNFS Faculty director.

Mandate
The director, recruitment, outreach and recognition, provides leadership on the portfolio and co-ordinates related components for our Francophone community. The incumbent supervises the head of student outreach, Francophone Affairs, and the head of recognition, Francophone Affairs, ensuring alignment of priorities, approval of work plans and accountability.
In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the recruitment and retention of faculty members to teach in French. This includes identifying needs, developing networks and supporting departments and programs to ensure sustainable teaching capacity in French.
Description of portfolio/responsibilities
Strategic planning and institutional priority-setting
- Develop and maintain annual and multi-year strategic plans for the portfolio (recruitment, outreach and recognition), in line with the priorities of Francophone Affairs and the Faculty of Medicine.
- Define strategic objectives, development pillars and performance indicators for the portfolio in co-operation with the relevant programs.
- Prioritize high-impact initiatives and recommend any necessary changes to the vice-dean, Francophone affairs, based on available resources and the institutional context.
Leadership
- Provide strategic and functional leadership for the two sub-directors on the portfolio:
- head, student outreach
- head, recognition
- Supervise the heads’ annual planning, and validate their strategic directions.
- Lead performance management and development for the portfolio heads.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, complementarity and shared responsibility.
Institutional coherence, linguistic equity and governance
- Ensure coherence in the institution’s messaging, practices and mechanisms for recruitment, outreach and recognition in French.
- Ensure that the principles of linguistic equity are incorporated effectively into the relevant Faculty processes.
- Contribute to the development of institutional frameworks, practices and directions on the Francophonie by making strategic recommendations for the relevant bodies.
Institutional relations and strategic positioning
- Represent Francophone Affairs in strategic discussions related to recruitment, outreach and recognition.
- Maintain functional relations with program directors, departments, clinical partners and University authorities.
- Contribute to the Faculty of Medicine’s strategic positioning as a hub of excellence for teaching and education in French.
- Define and pilot a whole-of-Faculty strategy for recruiting and retaining faculty members to teach in French in the medicine, PharmD and, as required, undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Develop and implement an integrated recruitment strategy for French-language teaching, clinical supervision and leadership positions, in line with Faculty and program priorities.
- Work with program directors and educational personnel to assess annual and medium-term needs for French-language teaching.
- Identify gaps in the teaching staff and proactively recruit qualified individuals from the academic, clinical and community sectors.
- Establish and maintain recruitment networks in Francophone clinical, academic and community settings.
- Support departments in identifying talent and professors with rising profiles.
- Expand and diversify the teaching pool to reflect institutional priorities, including equity, diversity and inclusion as well as Francophones’ language needs and specialty representation.
- Provide support and guidance on faculty appointment pathways to be more appealing to Francophone professors and promote their retention.
- Contribute to faculty diversification in line with institutional priorities, including equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Act as the main point of contact for potential and current teachers and preceptors (first and second year) in the Francophone stream.
- Maintain up-to-date information on recruited and active teachers, workload distribution and teaching assignments in the Francophone stream.
Recognition and appreciation
- Contribute to the recognition of commitment to the Francophonie among students, faculty members and clinicians in the Faculty of Medicine by proposing and promoting nominations for awards, distinctions and other forms of Faculty or University recognition.
- Help to highlight the journeys, contributions and commitment of members of the Francophone community in Faculty and University communications.
- Support the inclusion of recognition as a cross-cutting tool in outreach and recruitment strategies.
Performance monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement
- Oversee the implementation of tools for monitoring, evaluation and accountability across the entire portfolio.
- Review sub-directors’ performance and produce a cross-cutting strategic analysis of results.
- Identify risks, emerging opportunities and avenues for innovation.
- Make recommendations for continuous improvement to the vice-dean, Francophone affairs.
- Identify innovative practices for engaging with and promoting the Francophone community, including students, faculty members and clinicians, and suggest avenues for improvement or pilot projects.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of outreach strategies, taking into account stakeholder feedback and available data.
- Provide required information for accreditation to the primary lead on accreditation and program evaluation, and collaborate with the MD program recruitment director (Anglophone stream).
