Faculty of Social Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award – Submit a Nomination Today!

Do you know an FSS graduate whose achievements are making a real difference?
Each year, the Faculty of Social Sciences proudly presents the Outstanding Alumni Award to recognize graduates who have made exceptional contributions to their community, profession, or field of study.

This award celebrates alumni who embody the Faculty’s values through their leadership, service, and impact—and who continue to inspire both their peers and current students.

Nomination Guidelines

  • Who can nominate: Anyone can submit a nomination.
     
  • Eligibility: Nominees must be graduates of the Faculty of Social Sciences who have made a remarkable contribution to society through their career, community involvement, or academic achievements.
     
  • Please submit your nomination by May 31 by completing the online form. 

Faculty of Social Sciences Recognition Award and Outstanding Alumni Award

2026 Rosalee LaPlante, Outstanding Alumni Award 

A graduate of the Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Development and Globalization, LaPlante has devoted more than two decades to advancing peace, security, democratic governance and international cooperation through her career in the Canadian public service.

LaPlante currently serves as Chargé d’affaires of Canada to Myanmar, a position she assumed in September 2025. Throughout her career, she has represented Canada in complex environments including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, the occupied Palestinian Territories and Myanmar, with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected states, democratic transitions and peace process diplomacy.

2023 recognition award: Hubert Marleau

It is with great pleasure that the Faculty of Social Sciences awarded the 2023 Recognition Award to Hubert Marleau. This award is given to a friend of the Faulty who demonstrates leadership by contributing to the reputation of the faculty and has positively impacted the student experience through their actions and dedication.

2018 Recognition award: Wolodymyr George Danyliw

It is with great pleasure that the Faculty of Social Sciences awarded the 2018 Recognition Award to the Wolodymyr George Danyliw Foundation. This award is given to a friend of the Faulty who demonstrates leadership by contributing to the reputation of the faculty and has positively impacted the student experience through their actions and dedication.

2017 Recognition award: Yves and Cynthia

Ottawa-based philanthropists Yves and Cynthia Bled have created two educational endowments at the University of Ottawa to support the Canadian Future Achievers Role Model Program (CFA) and the Future Achievers International Role Model Program (FAI). These programs have encouraged almost 130 students to complete high school and pursue higher education.
