A large part of the ISPR consists of two research participation pools, a longstanding one for undergraduates, as well as a new pool for a broader more general adult population. The ISPR also provides other tools to assist researchers in recruiting participants and carrying out their research. If you have any questions about the ISPR or need assistance in using these systems, please inquire at [email protected].
ISPR Community Pool
The School of Psychology and the Brain and Mind Institute are creating a new community participant pool in order to help researchers to more easily recruit research participants from the wider community. This will include individuals who could come in-person into the laboratory, as well as those who may wish to only participate online. This system will function in a way somewhat similar to the School of Psychology’s long standing ISPR Student Pool, but will be targeted at a much wider population rather than focused only on undergraduate students at the University of Ottawa. This pool seeks to recruit individuals 18 and older of all demographics allowing researchers to recruit both general adult populations as well as targeting particular groups, such as older participants. ISPR Student Pool
The ISPR for students is a research participation program run by the School of Psychology. This system is designed to bring together researchers and undergraduate students who are enrolled in introductory psychology or research methods courses. The students gain a direct experience of research by acting as participants, which gives them first-hand knowledge of the research process and complements the instruction that they are receiving in their courses. Researchers gain the benefit of easy access to young adult research participants, saving them a great deal of time and effort in the execution of their studies. The ISPR currently has in excess of 5000 participants passing through the system each year, with roughly 10,000 hours of research participation in both the fall and winter terms, and approximately 1000 hours of participation during the spring session. Other participant recruitment opportunities
While the student and community participant pools do allow for a great deal of research recruitment opportunities, there are many other studies that must recruit from very specific populations that may not be well captured in the community pools. Below is a list of some of the other recruitment opportunities that are available or are under development.
-
Qualtrics online sample. The School's Qualtrics license makes it possible to hire outside survey panel companies to find participants of diverse backgrounds to participate in online Qualtrics surveys. Expect to pay on the order of $10-20 per participant depending on your exact recruitment criteria.
- Clinical populations. Partnerships are currently under development in order to facilitate research collaborations between academic researchers and local hospitals and clinics. Due to the complexities of research with clinical patients, close coordination with hospital and clinic staff is essential. If you have clinical recruitment needs, or if you have existing relationships with clinics that you would like to make more broadly available to our researchers, please contact [email protected].
