Civil Law Program - French Proficiency Test

OLBI offers a suite of language tests for a variety of stakeholders and purposes. We follow international best practice in test design, administration, scoring and reporting procedures.

About the test

The Civil Law program (licence en Droit) is offered exclusively in French. Therefore, students must have a sufficient understanding of written and spoken French to participate in their courses. In order to evaluate their French proficiency, first-year Civil Law students who completed their previous studies in English must complete an online French Proficiency Test administered by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute’s Language Testing Services. Students who are required to take the test will be contacted by the Civil Law Section.

Test Fee: A $35.25 non-refundable fee will be added to your Statement of account which can be viewed in uoZone. Please ensure that you access and run the right test.

Description of the test

This test evaluates listening and reading comprehension and includes the following:

  • Three listening passages which consist of a recorded conversation or lecture and multiple-choice questions related to the recording. You will hear the recording twice.

  • Three reading passages which consist of a text which you must read and multiple-choice questions related to the text.
  • One fill-in the-blank activity which consists of a passage in which words have been deleted. You must choose, from the multiple-choice options, the words that best fit the blanks.
