Honours Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics - Admission test

Applicants to the Honours Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program must be able to express themselves in both English and French. To assess their language skills, candidates must take an online English and/or French test.

Important information

The cost for the online language test is $100 per language evaluated.

The language proficiency tests to be completed are identified in the candidate's uoZone portal.

Description of the test

These language proficiency tests are administered exclusively online.

This test is composed of two sections:

  1. Written Expression: you will type a written response to a topic.
  2. Spoken Expression: you will record spoken responses to a variety of questions.

Please allow 90 minutes to write the test, but you may finish more quickly.

Please note that the test must be completed in one sitting. If you exit the test before completing it, you will not be able to return to the same test.

Deadlines

Applicants will need to pay the test fees and request access to the test.

Deadline for completing the test: Details for the 2026–2027 testing period will be provided soon.

Accessing the test

Test fees 

Pay for the test with a credit card only. The fee is $100 per test.

Note: if someone else pays for your test, make sure they include your name in the Details section of the payment form. Without this, it will be impossible for us to know that payment has been made and you will not be able to access the test.

  1. Log into the online testing platform XpressLab- Language testing portal.
  2. You will find a list of available tests. Find the name of the name of the test(s) you need to take:
    1. English test name: Nutrition Sciences– English Test
    2. French test name: Sciences de la nutrition – Test de français

3. Click on the Request Access button. A pop-up window containing the payment link will appear on your screen.

4.  Click on the payment link. This link will take you to the uOttawa eStore. You can also make your payment by accessing the link to the eStore .

5. Pay for your test.

6. Close the eStore window once the payment is completed.

7. Back in the XpressLab- Language testing portal window, click the Request Access button.

If you need to take more than one test, please follow steps 3 to 7 for each test.

Taking the test

  1. When you have enough time to write the test (90 minutes), log back in through the XpressLab - Language testing portal and follow the instructions.
  2. Find the name of the test(s) you need to take in the Available Tests list on your dashboard:
    1. English test name: Nutrition Sciences– English Test
    2. French test name: Sciences de la nutrition – Test de français
  3. Click on the Start Test button. You will receive the results 3-5 business days after submitting your test.

If you need to take more than one test, please follow steps 1 to 3 for each test.
