Every year, we welcome hundreds of foreign students through exchange programs. We’d be pleased to have you join us for one or two terms while you remain enrolled at your home university. To be eligible, your institution must have signed an agreement with uOttawa.
Deadlines
For a full academic year or the Fall term or Winter term: March 31.
Steps to follow
Before you begin
You must be nominated by your own international relations office to go on an exchange.
The Telfer School of Management and the Faculty of Medicine have established restricted bilateral agreements with specific partner institutions abroad and administer their own exchange programs. If you wish to participate in an exchange with either one, contact it directly.
Explore your study options
You can enroll in courses in different disciplines. See the course timetable. However, courses in the following faculties aren’t open to visiting international students (students whose home university doesn’t have a partnership agreement with uOttawa):
- Telfer School of Management
- Faculty of Education (undergraduate)
- Faculty of Medicine
Faculties may also restrict access to certain courses. See “Course access restrictions” under Step 2.
Participation period
- One term: Fall (September to December) or Winter (January to April)
- Two terms: September to April (regular academic year)
Internships while on exchange
You can’t do an internship during your stay at uOttawa while participating in the exchange program.
International scholarship opportunities for non-Canadians
The Government of Canada provides opportunities for students to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions:
- Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP).
- Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED).
IMPORTANT
uOttawa must complete the online scholarship application on the student’s behalf. Only complete applications received by March 5, 2024, will be considered.
Scholarships for study
Students must also apply to the uOttawa Incoming Exchange program by March 31. Both the exchange and scholarship applications must be submitted separately by their respective deadlines. Scholarship application documents must be submitted to [email protected].
Scholarships for research
Students must obtain a letter of invitation from a uOttawa supervisor and send all application supporting documents to the supervisor’s designated Faculty representative. The following resources are available to help prospective scholars identify potential supervisors:
- University of Ottawa research centres including affiliated hospitals and institutes and its clusters of research interests.
- Faculty-based research offices.
