Mashkawazìwogamig Indigenous Resource Centre, a place of strength
Our main campus stands on the ancestral lands of the Algonquin Nation. The Mashkawazìwogamig Indigenous Resource Centre works with University faculties and departments to develop initiatives that support First Nations, Inuit and Métis students, to build a new relationship that recognizes and celebrates Indigenous culture and values. The centre invites all students to get to know the Indigenous community and learn more at Soup and Bannock and other events.
Take pride in diversity and support the 2SLGBTQ+ community
The University of Ottawa is a safe, welcoming space where diversity and inclusion are highly valued. The uOttawa Students’ Union runs the Pride Centre, offering resources, advocacy, programming and events, including a drop-in lounge, a quiet room, gender-affirming products, a queer library, therapy at no charge and safer sex and sanitary supplies. The centre represents gender-positive, gender-diverse, anti-sexist, anti-colonial, anti-racist and anti-ableist students, as well as allies interested in 2SLGBTQ+ issues.
Resources for and by the Black community
The University of Ottawa community unequivocally opposes and denounces racism, harassment, racial slurs and discrimination. The University’s vice-provost, equity, diversity and inclusive excellence, Professor Awad Ibrahim, takes a proactive, strategic approach to entrench a culture of inclusive excellence. Additionally, the uOttawa Students’ Union, through its Racialized and Indigenous Students Experience Centre, provides peer-to-peer dialogue and support, safe spaces, awareness events and campaigns.
