Accessible parking shouldn’t be about obstacles, but rather, possibilities. This page provides clear, reliable information on accessible on-campus parking options.

Eligibility

Accessible parking is available to individuals with reduced mobility who hold a valid accessible parking permit issued by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (or other provincial equivalent).

Parking on campus

Since the University of Ottawa is considered private property, all individuals, including those with accessible parking permits, are required to pay for parking while on campus.

Permit options

University of Ottawa staff members, faculty members and students may purchase a parking permit that grants access to designated accessible parking areas that have been clearly marked with the accessibility pictogram. To obtain this permit, individuals must present their Ministry of Transportation Accessible Parking Permit to the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office when applying for, and collecting, their University of Ottawa parking permit.

Only those who display both a University of Ottawa parking permit and their Ministry-issued accessible parking permit will be authorized to use accessible parking spaces in campus lots and garages.

Temporary accessible parking permits

Students, faculty members and staff members who have temporary mobility needs may request a short-term parking permit that will be valid for up to three months. They must submit a medical note to:

  • Academic Support (for students)
  • Human Resources (for employees)

These offices will coordinate with the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office to issue the temporary permit. Please note that this permit is not an accessible parking permit; it provides authorization for closeproximity parking in designated lots and garages only.

Note: If accessible parking is required for longer than three months, the driver must present a valid accessible parking permit from the Ministry of Transportation.
