The following information will provide employees with an overview of the available permit options to assist them in selecting the most appropriate one.

For employees

Multiyear parking permit eligibility.

Regular support staff and faculty members who hold a permanent position, or a contract longer than one year, are eligible for a multi-year parking permit.

  • Payment: Parking permits can be conveniently paid through payroll deductions.
  • Expiry: Multi-year permits do not have expiry dates. You must return your multi-year permit if you leave the University of Ottawa, if your contract expires, or if you no longer need the permit.
  • Transfer of multi-year permits: Multi-year permits cannot be transferred between employees (e.g., If employee A has a multi-year permit but is going on maternity leave, they cannot transfer their permit to their replacement).
  • Suspending multi-year permit payments: If you know you will be away from the University for a 3-to-12 months’ absence, you can request that your permit be temporarily suspended. To initiate the suspension, please return your permit to the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office and complete the required paperwork prior to your departure.
    • Multi-year permit holders remain responsible for all associated costs until they return their permit to the Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office.
  • Lost multi-year permit: If you lose your permit, you will be charged a $60 replacement fee.
  • Switching parking locations: There are no formal waiting lists for employee parking permits. However, permit holders may request a transfer to a different campus location. In such cases, their name will be added to a transfer list. Please note that wait times for transfers are variable and cannot be guaranteed.

Multi-year permits are currently being issued for three locations only:

  1. Mann garage (Sports Complex), 33 Mann Avenue: $200.70/month
  2. Lot G4, 200 Lees Avenue: $116.44/month
  3. Lot R, 625 Peter Morand: $98.44/month

Day permits

Day permits are also available for employees on fixed term contracts of less than 12 months or those who would prefer to pay for their permit upfront. However, these permits do expire and cannot be suspended. Instead, permit holders may be issued a refund for the unused portion of the service, with the original payment method used to process the refund. The same is true for evening permits. See the Permit Cancellation and Refund section for more information.

Shift work permits

The Parking Office does have permits available to employees whose regular schedule includes approximately 50% day shifts and 50% night shifts. The employee’s eligibility must be verified by their department or supervisor and approved by the Parking Office.

  • These permits are valid only during scheduled uOttawa work shifts.
  • No second tag will be issued.
  • These permits are NOT to be used unless the employee is scheduled to work.

These permit holders must notify Parking Services of any change in their work schedule that affects eligibility.

These permits are provided at half the cost of regular permits.

Second permit tag

We recognize that work schedules can vary, and as a result, some employees may wish to share the cost of a parking permit with a colleague during times when the permit is not needed on a daily basis. To accommodate this, the primary permit holder may request a second permit.

Please keep the following important points in mind:

  • Single use rule: Only one copy of the permit may be in use at any given time — without exception.
    • If both copies are found in use simultaneously, the vehicle displaying the second permit will receive a parking infraction notice (i.e., ticket), while the primary permit holder will receive a courtesy notice.
  • Intended use: The second permit is not intended for use in the primary holder’s second vehicle. It is strictly intended for use by another individual.
  • Expiry: The second permit expires at the end of the academic year (April). A new second permit must be collected from the Parking Office each May.
