Ottawa, the capital city

Home to over 1 million people, Ottawa is Canada’s vibrant capital city. Located in the Eastern Standard Time zone (GMT –5), Ottawa offers the full Canadian seasonal experience with hot, humid summers reaching up to +30°C and chilly winters that can dip as low as –30°C with the windchill. Spring and fall often bring quick weather changes, so layering is key!

As a bilingual city, both English and French are official languages. Ottawa is known for being a safe, welcoming, and student-friendly city, filled with parks, museums, cafés, and a vibrant mix of cultures. It’s easy to get around using public transit (OC Transpo), or by walking and biking.

Indigenous Affirmation

We pay respect to the Algonquin people, who are the traditional guardians of this land. We acknowledge their longstanding relationship with this territory, which remains unceded. We pay respect to all Indigenous people in this region, from all nations across Canada, who call Ottawa home. We acknowledge the traditional knowledge keepers, both young and old. And we honour their courageous leaders: past, present, and future.
