The University of Ottawa is a private property and is therefore responsible for the supervision of all campus parking lots and garages.

Appealing a parking ticket

The University of Ottawa is considered private property and is therefore responsible for supervising all campus parking lots and garages. The parking and security divisions of Protection Services establish regulations and ensure that they are respected.

All patrol officers are deputized by the City of Ottawa and are authorized to issue City of Ottawa parking infraction notices (i.e., parking tickets) on University of Ottawa property. All infractions to University of Ottawa parking and traffic regulations are classified as “Unauthorized parking – Private property.”

Courtesy notices and parking infraction notices

Courtesy notices

The Parking and Sustainable Transportation Office aims to foster understanding and compliance with campus parking rules rather than penalize users. Whenever possible, we issue courtesy notices instead of formal parking infractions to help educate users about campus parking regulations. This approach allows individuals to correct mistakes and become more familiar with the rules, promoting a more respectful and informed parking environment for everyone.

If a driver receives an infraction notice, they must pay it to the City of Ottawa. Please note that serious parking violations (e.g., parking in an accessible parking spot without a permit) will result in an immediate infraction notice without warning. This approach helps maintain fairness while ensuring the safety and accessibility of our campus.

Parking infraction notices

Parking infraction notices are issued by the Protection Services patrol officers when a vehicle is in violation of University of Ottawa Parking and Traffic regulations.

Unauthorized parking - Private property (includes expired meters)$100
Park in a designated fire route$125
Park in an accessible parking space, no permit$500

Consequences for receiving multiple parking infraction notices

Parking at the University of Ottawa is a privilege. It is your responsibility to abide by the regulations established by the Parking Office. Those who commit multiple parking infractions will lose their parking privileges on University property and their vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense.
