General information

The leadership program will run from July 20 to 24, 2020.  With respect to travel plans, the selected participants must plan to arrive in Ottawa on July 19 and leave the city on July 25 after the last day of the forum. There are no fees associated with attending the Forum, however; it is the participant’s responsibility to finance their travel to the campus. Transportation to Ottawa is included for a limited number of participants traveling a distance greater than 300 km.

We will be accepting applications until May 15, 2020. Register online!

You will need to provide your personal information (name, birthday, address, etc.) and answer the following three questions:

• What does leadership mean to you?
• Explain how you are committed to your community (at school or in your community). Think of all the activities that demonstrate your involvement and your leadership.
• Explain why you want to participate in the Leadership Forum.

All young Canadians aged 14 to 18 from Caribbean, Inuit, Métis or First Nations communities across the country. To be considered, you will need to submit a registration form with your personal information as well as your written responses the three questions.

Participants will be selected based on their community involvement, the quality of the written responses and their explanation of why they want to participate in the forum. 

Yes, only 20 participants will be accepted. The number of participants from outside the National Capital Region is limited to 5.

The forum will provide a tailored leadership training for youth from a Caribbean, Inuit, Métis or First Nations community. 

In addition to the leadership training activities, participants will discover the city of Ottawa during their stay. Future achievers will visit museums and heritage sites, meet influential individuals, group activities and have free time to explore the city or relax.

Security is a priority during the forum. University of Ottawa Security Service is present across campus and can be reached at any time. Participants will be accompanied by the team leaders throughout the week to ensure their safety and well-being.

There is an example of what a typical day at the forum will look like! The training and workshop will take place each morning while social and group activities will take place in afternoons. You will notice that there is designated down time in the schedule. You can use this time to call your friends and family, relax, or spend time with your peers. The days will be long, but rewarding!

No. The Forum is an on-site program. It was created this way so that you can connect with one another to strength relationships to elevate the leadership aspect. Also, by living on campus you will have the chance discover university life in its entirety!
