Log in to the Brightspace (or download the app from the App store (iOS) or Google Play (Android)) using your uoAccess ID (i.e. the same login credentials as One45 and your uOttawa email).

If you do not know your password, click on “Can’t access your account?” and use the password management tool to reset your password.

In the desktop version, click on your name in the top right and select “Account Settings” (or "Réglages du compte") to select between French and English.

Brightspace is primarily designed for undergraduate-style courses, so all users (with a few exceptions) are called “students.”

If you log into Brightspace and don’t see your courses (which would include “FM Politiques et ressources | Policies and Resources”, “FM Programme d’études | Curriculum”, “FM Évaluation | Assessment” and at least one other), please contact [email protected].

You will have access to at least four course spaces, “Politiques et ressources | Policies and Resources”, “Programme d’études | Curriculum”, “Évaluations | Assessment” and at least one other (of “R1/2 | PGY1/2”, “Corps professoral | Faculty”, and “R3 | PGY3”). These courses contain information and resources to support teaching and learning at the uOttawa Department of Family Medicine. This includes contact information, objectives, assessment forms, field notes, academic day presentations, FMRSP and QI Project resources, information on rotations and workshops, departmental policies, resilience resources and much more. If you previously used the DFM Resident Page/Portal, Brightspace is the new home for the majority of resources previously contained in this site. View the DFM Brightspace Map (see above) for more information.

While the DFM Brightspace includes many of our teaching and learning resources, it does not replace some existing tools and applications our faculty and returning residents may be familiar with. Applications that are not affected by Brightspace include:

• One45
• eField Notes
• Simulated Office Oral Exams (SOOs)*
• Leave of Absence (LOA) requests*
• Rural Reimbursements*

*These services are available in the Resident Portal and/or the Faculty Portal (the same as eField Notes).

We hope that using Brightspace will help improve the user experience for our teachers and learners. A few benefits (compared to the old DFM Portal) include the following:

Mobile-friendly: Brightspace offers the Pulse app that puts all teaching and learning resources in the palm of your hand. Download the app from the App store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Searchable: Are you looking for a particular field note or objective? Using the web application (unfortunately, this feature is not available in the app at this time), simply type keywords into the “Search topics” field in the course you would like to search (in this case, “Évaluation | Assessment”).

Decentralized content management: Previously, any changes to content on the DFM Portal had to go through a small handful of web developers, which required several steps and led to lags. Now, all unit coordinators and chief residents, as well as several DFM administrators and faculty directors can contribute to content. Is there something you’d like to see added in Brightspace? Start with your unit coordinator or DFM administrator, who can upload new content on your behalf.

It’s collaborative: In addition to the point above, Brightspace also allows for discussion forums and has flexible spaces (including the Unit Homepages in the “R1/2 | PGY1/2” course space) where residents and preceptors can start a dialogue on any number of topics.

All unit coordinators and chief residents, as well as several DFM administrators and faculty directors can contribute to content. Is there something you’d like to see added in Brightspace? Start with your unit coordinator, DFM administrator, or send a request to [email protected], who can upload new content or make updates on your behalf.

Some course spaces may take a short time to load. If any course fails to load on the app, verify your wi-fi connection, close the app, and try again. If problems persist, you may need to update the app, or delete and re-install the app. Contact [email protected] if you continue to have problems.

Contacting [email protected] is the best place to start. The University of Ottawa also has a walk-in computer lab for faculty members (Room 1020 at Vanier Hall, 136 Jean-Jacques Lussier Private) that is open every weekday. A series of video tutorials is also available online. You can always reach Brightspace by D2L support 24/7 at 1-866-811-3201 or by using the Support Request Form.
