The Residence Life team includes people here to help you transition to university life. Whether professional live-in staff or upper-year students, we’re always ready to connect you to resources. We help build a safe community in which residents of all origins and orientations thrive while developing personally and academically. We further a sense of belonging and community connection, organize events and facilitate mediation and conflict resolution discussions with residents.
Residence teams
The residence community
Many teams work together to create a welcoming, supportive, and connected residence community. These team members naturally lend a hand, offer guidance, and help make residence feel like home. Explore the different teams that contribute to residence life below. You may find a role that’s a perfect fit for you.
“I am beyond grateful for the opportunities and skills that Residence Life has imparted to me, and for the enduring lessons that continue to be useful in my life to this day.”
Neerav
“Thinking about the experiences that have most marked my journey at the University of Ottawa, being part of the Residence Life team is certainly one of the most enriching.”
Pierre-Luc
Residence Life Team
The Residence Life team is comprised of the following positions.
Community Advisors (CAs)
Upper-year student leaders who live in residence and foster a community atmosphere within your building floor or unit. They’re here to help you in many ways, direct you toward other resources you may need, and maintain and improve the quality of residence community life. CAs are a peer-to-peer resource for you as you go through your first year in residence, and can offer confidential support for your personal or academic concerns.
Team Leads (TLs)
Upper-year student leaders who live in residence and manage a team of community advisers. Former CAs themselves, they support the current CAs and organize building-wide activities!
Peer Supports (PSs)
Upper-year student leaders who live in residence and provide peer-to-peer support to upper-year students. They help build community and foster a positive residence experience. PSs hold office hours — visit them if you have personal or academic concerns you’d like to address with a peer.
Residence Life Coordinators (RLC)
Professional staff responsible for residence safety and security. They supervise and support the community adviser, team lead and peer support teams. Coordinators make sure that the Residence Agreement and Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures are followed and act as a resource if you need additional support.
Residence Safety team
The Residence Safety team helps improve the student experience and ensures the safety of the residence community. Members walk through residences and help with education and housing regulation compliance.

Mobile team RSAs normally walk through residences every day between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. You can find stationary RSAs at the entrance to the Rideau, Friel and, occasionally, 90U residences.
Residence Safety team leads (RS-TLs)
Team leads are experienced, upper-year students who provide peer-to-peer guidance to the RSA team during their shifts, and work alongside them to assist in providing peer-to-peer, confidential support and resource navigation to students with safety, conduct or mental health questions or concerns.
Residence Conduct Coordinator (RCC)
A professional staff member who leads the Residence Conduct program and manages the Residence Safety Team. The residence conduct coordinator provides guidance to the Residence Life team in applying the Residence Agreement, Code of Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedure. They support the Residence Life team with case management, conduct and care education, and prevention initiatives that promote accountability, respect, personal growth, and belonging within residence.
Move-In Volunteer Team
We are excited to welcome new students to campus and with your help we aim to give them the best student experience.
From August 28 to August 31, over 3,000 new Gee-Gees will be moving into uOttawa residences and we need your energy to help welcome them. Join our team of volunteers to make move-in fun and memorable. We need volunteers for many positions, like parking attendant or greeter.
Move-Out Volunteer Team
The move-out period is an important time in residence life, with much going on. While some students will be moving off-campus and starting a new chapter, others will be staying or subletting with us over the summer. We also have students leaving for the summer but returning to their room, or to a different room or unit, in the fall.
Because there are so many different options, we need your help to ensure that students moving out can do so efficiently. A well-managed moving out period will also give the Residence Team time to clean and prepare empty units and rooms for students moving in.
