Home-schooled applicants

Admission requirements for home-schooled applicants differ by program. Use the tool below to find the prerequisite courses, minimum average and other admission requirements that apply to your educational background and geographical location.

We assess your application individually based on your academic preparation and supporting documentation.

You don’t need the standard six 4U- or 4M-level courses usually associated with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or an equivalent credential. However, you need to show that you’ve completed academic studies equivalent to the admission requirements for your chosen program.

For programs that require specific Grade 12 mathematics or science prerequisites, you need to provide documentation that shows equivalent preparation through one or more of the following:

• SAT, ACT or Advanced Placement (AP) examinations
• Grade 12 (4U) courses completed through an accredited high school in Ontario
• Equivalent courses completed through another recognized institution or province

Note: These are minimum requirements subject to change. Meeting them doesn’t guarantee admission.

To assess your application, we may request the following documents:

Personal statement

Provide a brief description of the educational program you completed in your last two years of secondary studies. You can also include information about extracurricular activities, volunteer work, employment or other experiences that helped prepare you for university studies.

Academic record

Submit a record of subjects through uoDoc (in our uoZone portal) you studied and grades earned for Grade 11 and 12, if available. These records can be prepared by a home-school organization or by a parent or guardian.

Standardized test results

If available or required for your program, submit your results for the SAT, ACT, AP or similar examinations.

These results can help demonstrate your academic preparation for university-level study.

Official transcripts

If you are admitted, you must submit your official transcript with final grades. Transcripts submitted through uoDoc aren’t considered official.

An official transcript must be printed and stamped with an official seal and sent by the institution in question or provided as a certified copy through an authorized official, such as a notary, lawyer or commissioner of oaths.
