Enrolment for the Spring/Summer term begins at the end of March, and enrolment for the Fall/Winter terms begins in June.
Please refer to the Important academic dates and deadlines page for specific enrolment dates.

You can enrol for your courses online through the Self-Serve tool, accessible through uoZone.

Once your enrolment period has begun, go to the Student Center in uoZone, and click on Enrol. For detailed instructions, please refer to the How to enrol in a class tutorial, on the Enrol application page.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help. The Graduate Studies Office can answer your questions and guide you through the enrolment process.

If you have technical problems with uoZone or any other accounts, complete a Service Desk request. You will need your student number.

Visit My Academic Requirements in uoZone to make sure you enrol in all courses or activities you need to get your degree.

You might have a hold on your file preventing you from enrolling (ex: outstanding fees, checklist item or milestone).

You can view if you have holds on the right of the Student Center dashboard in uoZone.

If you have one, click Details in the Holds section for more information about it and the steps to take to remove it.

If you have none, No Holds will be displayed in that section.

Yes. As outlined in Academic Regulation C-3.1.3 Continuous enrolment:

Unless otherwise specified in the regulations for a specific program, students must enrol in each term until they complete their program.

Students who fail to enrol in each term without being granted a leave of absence in accordance with this regulation will be presumed to have withdrawn from their program, and their files will be closed without further notice. Students whose files have been closed as a result of failure to observe enrolment requirements must apply for readmission if they wish to continue their studies. Re-admitted students will be required to pay a reinstatement fee as well as the minimum tuition fee for each term for which they failed to enrol.

The enrolment module features a wait list system. If you are interested in a course but all sections are full, you can place your name on a wait list and you will automatically be enrolled when a spot becomes available, subject to any enrolment limits and providing spots are reserved for your program.

For step-by-step instructions on how to place your name on a wait list, please read our Wait list FAQ before using this function.

Courses are offered in-person and online during the Spring/Summer term.

Please note, our courses are typically only offered in sub-session A and B.

You can download your unofficial enrolment verification letter in uoZone. It doesn't include the seal of the University of Ottawa.

To order official proof of enrolment, log into uoZone. Under the Applications tab, select Purchase Official Documents, select the Digital documents format and follow the steps.

For pedagogical reasons we strongly recommend registering to EDU 5190/5590 in your first term following your admission and EDU 5199/5599 in your last term.

To request a change of student status (full-time or part-time) go to the Applications menu in uoZone and click Service Requests. For more detailed instructions, check the Service Requests tutorial under the Service Requests application in uoZone. You will need to attach a duly completed Modification/Cancellation of Registration (Graduate Studies) form.

Important: If your request is approved, it will not be possible to modify your status again in the future. The status change is final.

Please note, if your student status has changed from full-time to part-time, you may no longer be eligible for financial aid for the following term. For more information, contact Financial Aid and Awards. In addition, any such change could affect your employee benefits. We recommend that you contact the Graduate Students Association of the University of Ottawa (GSAED).

Counselling/Psychology Students: This program is offered only full-time. As indicated in your offer of admission, you must maintain a full-time status each term and throughout the duration of your studies.

Use the Fee calculator to know what the estimated cost for your tuition fees would be.

The estimated amount for the University fees includes:

  • Tuition fees (International students studying in French can be eligible for a differential tuition fee exemption).
  • Ancillary fees (Incidental fees are related to student activities, services and associations).
  • Administrative fees (Administrative fees are charged for specific administration–related services).

No, funding is not automatic for all graduate students.

  • For doctoral students, doctoral scholarships are awarded competitively, based on the quality of the application. These scholarships are awarded based on a faculty and institutional quota, meaning that a limited number of scholarships are available each year. Selection is made from the best applications submitted, based on the application evaluation at the time of admission.
  • For Master’s degree candidates with a thesis (M.A.), a special merit scholarship may be awarded to new students who have achieved an admission average of 8.0/10 (A-) or higher. This scholarship is generally awarded automatically, based on the application evaluation at the time of admission.

Students admitted to the M.Ed. (Coursework or Major Research Paper options) do not qualify for admission or special merit scholarships.

Funding options for graduate students include:

  • Government financial aid (provincial/federal loans and scholarships)
  • Research scholarships or grants from external organizations (e.g., SSHRC, FRQSC)
  • Online scholarships

For more information, please visit the Awards and Financial Support page.

In addition to internal and external scholarships, graduate students may have access to other forms of financial support, including paid employment contracts within the Faculty, such as assistantships and research contracts.

For more information, please visit the Research and Teaching Assistantships page.

The first day of enrolment for the next Fall and Winter terms is generally in June of each year. Please consult the Important Dates and Deadlines webpage to know when your enrollment period begins.

You will also receive an email with detailed information before the enrollment period begins.

We strongly recommend consulting your recommended course sequence to better understand which courses you should be taking per term.

Students at the University of Ottawa have access to a uOttawa email account (@uOttawa.ca) using the Outlook platform powered by Microsoft. Your Outlook account is automatically activated up to 48 hours after you successfully enroll in at least one course in uoCampus.

Enrollment is done online via the uoZone portal.

Once logged in, go to the Enrollment section to search for and add courses to your program.

If you have not yet fulfilled all your admission conditions, your enrollment may be temporarily blocked.

Admission conditions can include:

  • Submission of all official transcripts and required documents
  • Proof of degree completion

Until these conditions are fully satisfied and verified by the Graduate Studies Office, the system may prevent you from enrolling in courses. Make sure to consult your Admission File via uoZone to review your admission letter to identify outstanding conditions, and submit missing document as soon as possible.

Please contact the Graduate Studies Office as soon as possible for us to complete a file evaluation to determine if you’re eligible to apply.

Once all of your grades are official, please send us an email ([email protected]) to request an evaluation and add a comment to your academic file to confirm you have satisfied your program requirements. Once the comment has been added, you will be able to request a Completion Letter from InfoService.

You’ll receive a regular-size diploma free of charge.

  • If attending in person: Your diploma will be available at Convocation. Unclaimed diplomas will be mailed the following week.
  • If receiving your diploma by mail: Your diploma will be mailed the week after Convocation.

You'll also receive a free digital diploma via MyCredsTM shortly after your degree is conferred. An email will be sent to your @uOttawa.ca account when it's ready.
