M.A. / PhD with thesis

This program is a rigorous, thesis-based research degree designed to prepare you for a Ph.D. It fosters advanced inquiry into educational theory, practice, and policy. Designed for students aspiring to doctoral studies, it supports original, in-depth research that contributes to transformative change in learning

PhD with thesis

A doctoral thesis must make a significant contribution to knowledge in a field of study, embody the results of original investigation and analysis, and be of such quality as to merit publication.

The doctoral thesis is usually about 250–300 pages. Like the Master’s, the duration can vary significantly, but, students are usually expected to complete their programs within four years.

Three major components of the doctoral thesis are the Comprehensive examination , the Thesis proposal and the defence.

Master of Education (M.Ed.) – Major Research option (MRP)

Master of Education (M.Ed.) – Major Research Project (MRP) option is a graduate-level program that bridges traditional coursework with hands-on research. It is designed for education professionals who want to develop research skills and explore a specific topic in depth, without the intense, defense-heavy commitment of a Master of Arts (M.A.)

MRP versus Thesis

  • MRP : the major research paper is prepared under the supervision of a professor chosen at the time of admission to the program. The scope and depth are less extensive than those of a thesis. The major research paper could, for example, include a meta-analysis, a scoping review, a systematic literature review, a secondary data analysis, an exploratory study, or a literature review.
  • Thesis : original body of independent research conducted by a graduate student to earn a master's or doctoral degree. It is a rigorous academic document that is publicly defended before a committee and permanently published online.
