Student Mentor – Faculty of Arts
 

Job Summary
 

Student Mentors support fellow students individually and in group settings, helping them develop effective learning strategies and habits that contribute to their personal, academic, and professional growth. They assist students in setting and achieving goals, and guide them toward campus resources that support their success. As fellow students, mentors bring a relatable perspective that helps others feel seen, heard, and supported.
 

Minimum Qualifications
 

• A strong desire to support peers, paired with the ability to connect with others through empathy, active listening, and an understanding of the student experience.

• Proficiency in both French and English.

• Full-time enrollment in second year or higher for the upcoming academic year, preferably in a Faculty of Arts program.

• Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and strong communication and organizational skills.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

• Strong sense of discretion and professionalism.

• Maintains a strong academic standing.

• Acceptance into the Work-Study Program.

• Experience in public speaking and with social media platforms is considered an asset.

Specific Responsibilities
 

• Facilitate and coordinate study group sessions and workshops.

• Design activities and exercises aimed at improving study strategies.

• Provide guidance to students in enhancing their study skills.

• Refer students to other campus services as needed.

• Deliver presentations in university classrooms.

• Attend mandatory training sessions and regular team meetings.

• Respond to student needs within the scope of the mentoring program, with sensitivity to the diversity of the student population.

• Maintain records of attendance and document activities, inquiries, challenges, and achievements.

• Perform other duties related to student retention and enhancing the student experience.
