Soon to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in International Development and Globalization from the University of Ottawa, I plan to continue my academic journey with a Master's in Poverty and Development. During the winter semester, I was debating whether to take five courses this summer or do an international internship along with three courses. I have no regrets about choosing the international internship because it is a highly educational experience, different from regular coursework, and a great addition to my CV!
I am currently completing a remote internship as a Business Development Officer in Burkina Faso with the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and the Association for the Development and Integration of Rural Youth (ADIJR). As a Business Development Officer, my tasks include creating a business network, developing marketing targeting tools, and preparing and delivering training on a specific tool. As a student in international development, I have less experience in these areas, so I find it interesting to have the opportunity to work in them.
Doing my internship remotely has its challenges, such as isolation due to the limited number of meetings, a lot of individual work, and the difficulty of immersing myself in the culture. Even though the experience is not the same as being on-site, I would still recommend the virtual internship to other students!
