George Wells, PhD, est chercheur principal du Centre de méthodes de recherche cardiovasculaire de l'Institut de cardiologie de l'Université d'Ottawa et professeur à l'École d'épidémiologie et de santé publique de l'Université d'Ottawa. Toujours à l'Université d'Ottawa, il est professeur au Département de médecine et scientifique principal affilié à l'Institut de recherche de l'Hôpital d'Ottawa.

Contexte

Dr Wells a beaucoup travaillé avec des organisations de recherche gouvernementales et non gouvernementales nationales et internationales, ainsi qu'avec des industries pharmaceutiques et biotechnologiques privées. Il a siégé aux comités exécutifs et directeurs de programmes de recherche nationaux et internationaux, ainsi qu'à des comités axés sur la surveillance externe de la sécurité et de l'efficacité, l'examen des subventions scientifiques, la rédaction et les conseils scientifiques. Il est actuellement rédacteur en chef adjoint du Journal of Clinical Epidemiology et fait partie du comité de rédaction du Journal de l'Association médicale canadienne.

Dr Wells a reçu le prix d'excellence en recherche de l'Université d'Ottawa en 2014 et le prix du scientifique émérite de la Société canadienne de recherches cliniques en 2007.

Dr Wells est l'auteur ou le coauteur de plus de 900 articles publiés et de 1000 résumés scientifiques. Il a été le chercheur principal ou le cochercheur de plus de 280 projets de recherche dont le financement dépasse 180 millions de dollars. Il a fait de nombreuses présentations scientifiques nationales et internationales. Il a enseigné des cours de premier et de deuxième cycle au niveau universitaire pendant plus de 35 ans et a supervisé ou co-supervisé plus de 100 étudiants en master ou en doctorat.

Intérêts de recherche et intérêts cliniques

Les intérêts de recherche du Dr Wells portent sur la conception et l'analyse des essais cliniques, la méthodologie statistique liée aux processus pathologiques et à la prestation des soins de santé, les examens systématiques et les méta-analyses, les évaluations économiques ainsi que le développement et l'évaluation des technologies d'aide à la décision pour les patients et les praticiens.
