Eileen O'Connor

Eileen O’Connor est professeure agrégée à l’École des sciences de l’activité physique. Cette titulaire d’un doctorat en histoire est chercheuse postdoctorale à la Faculté des sciences de la santé de l’Université d’Ottawa.

La professeure O’Connor a été directrice intérimaire du Centre de recherche sur le sport dans la société canadienne de l’Université en 2014-2015 et participe à plusieurs groupes de recherche dans les domaines de l’histoire de la santé, du sport et des études de genre. Elle a été nommée récemment au comité de sélection du programme des Bourses d’études et de recherche en santé des femmes de l’Ontario financé par le Conseil des universités de l’Ontario. Ses recherches ont reçu des subventions des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada, de l’Initiative de recherche et de technologie, du Fonds de recherche Québécois sur la société et la culture, de l’Associated Medical Services et de Santé Canada. Auteure de nombreuses publications dans des revues spécialisées comme le Canadian Bulletin of Medical History, le Journal of Online Learning and Teaching, le Yale Journal for Humanities in Medicine, le Journal of Emergency Management et l’American Journal of Disaster Medicine, Eileen O’Connor est membre de nombreuses associations savantes, dont la Société canadienne d’histoire de la médecine, l’International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sport, la North American Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education et  la Canadian Association for Community Service Learning.  Engagée dans le domaine de l’apprentissage expérientiel, elle siège au comité consultatif scolaire du Centre Michaëlle‑Jean pour l’engagement mondial et communautaire à l’Université d’Ottawa et au conseil consultatif pour la trousse sur l’apprentissage intégré au travail appuyé par le Conseil ontarien de la qualité de l’enseignement supérieur. La professeure O’Connor a été participante invitée à la Conférence sur l’apprentissage mobile de l’UNESCO à Paris, et à un atelier de la Faculté des sciences sociales sur le développement d’un certificat  en mobilisation communautaire pour les réfugiés syriens.

Elle a reçu un prix d’excellence en enseignement de la Faculté des sciences sociales en 2007, un prix de l’AEC pour contribution exceptionnelle et le prix de professeur de l’année en 2009, le prix d’excellence en enseignement de la capitale en 2010 et le prix d’excellence en éducation en 2016.

Recherches en cours

Les recherches de la professeure O’Connor portent sur l’analyse sociohistorique de la santé, du sport, du genre et des loisirs. Ses recherches sur l’histoire du sport au Canada traitent notamment des lois sur la sécurité dans les piscines et du développement de la réadaptation aquatique. Elle travaille aussi, en partenariat, sur une vidéo de langue française sur l’histoire des femmes et du sport au Canada. Dans le cadre d’un autre volet de son travail, elle s’intéresse à la création collaborative d’outils visant à former les étudiants avant qu’ils participent à une activité d’apprentissage expérientiel dans la communauté.
