Word from the Dean

Kristen Boon

Take a moment to recognize all that you have accomplished this year.   Whether that’s participating in a moot, taking a course in a new area of law, or publishing an article.

I commend you for your hard work and perseverance.

As you move into the final stretch of exams and final assignments, I encourage you to continue prioritizing your health and well-being. If things begin to feel overwhelming, give yourself permission to pause. A short break—whether it’s stepping outside, enjoying some fresh air, or spending time with friends—can help you return with renewed focus and energy. Remember that, as a uOttawa student, you have access to a wide range of health and wellness supports. We are here for you. You are also welcome to contact Jessica Simon at [email protected] to learn more about mental health resources, wellness services, and academic accommodations.

To those of you who are graduating, this is an exciting, potentially difficult, time. In the coming weeks and months, many of you will take important next steps—writing bar exams, beginning clerkships or articling positions, or embarking on new opportunities in different cities.

Whether your path leads you into legal practice or into another field enriched by your legal education, I wish you every success as you begin this next chapter. We hope you will remain connected to the Faculty and continue to share your achievements with us. As alumni, you are part of a lifelong community, with many opportunities to stay engaged and benefit from ongoing services and initiatives.

I look forward to seeing all of you on campus and celebrating with everyone at graduation. Please don’t hesitate to stop and share your plans for the summer or what lies ahead. I'm always delighted to chat with you.
