Dean’s Elevating Excellence Scholarship (automatic – no application required) 

To support newly-admitted JD students to the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, innovation and integrity. Recipients will be selected based on merit and academic performance, not financial need. 

Scotiabank Program for Law Students Scholarship (with application – deadline May 1) 

To support newly admitted undergraduate students who are part of a Black, Indigenous or racialized community and plan to use their law career to combat racism.

Prospective students can view the complete list of admission scholarships and bursaries via the general directory. Apply the appropriate filters and search for your eligible awards. Here is a list of automatic admission scholarships that are offered by the Faculty.

The Financial Questionnaire

The Financial Questionnaire is a required tool for applying to scholarships, bursaries, and the Work-Study Program. You can access it through uoZone under the Applications tab.

Be sure to read each question carefully—some ask for amounts per month, term, or year. Providing accurate information helps ensure your financial need is assessed correctly.

The CV 

When applying for awards through the Online Scholarships and Bursaries portal, you won’t upload a file—instead, you’ll complete a built-in CV template. The best part? You can save multiple versions of your CV, allowing you to customize your résumé to highlight the experience and skills most relevant to each award. It’s a simple, streamlined way to make every application stand out. 

Tips and Tricks 

Boost your chances with these quick tips:

• Customize Your References – Use recent, relevant letters that speak directly to the award criteria.
• Name the Award – Mention it in your letter(s) to show clear intent.
• Showcase Your Impact – highlight your experience and community involvement with confidence.
• Apply Broadly – If you're eligible, go for it. Every opportunity counts.
• Apply Mindfully – Take your time. It’s not first come, first served—apply when you’re focused and ready.

FALL SEMESTER 

August 1: Award applications usually open on this date. Registered students will be able to see the list of awards for the Fall as of this date, not before. 

October 31: Award applications usually close on this date. 

December 1 – January 31: Recipients are usually selected between this period. You will receive an e-mail from the Financial Aid and Awards Service if selected.

WINTER SEMESTER 

January 1: Award applications usually open on this date. Registered students will be able to see the list of awards for the Winter as of this date, not before. 

February 28: Award applications usually close on this date.

March 1 – March 30: Recipients are usually selected between this period. You will receive an e-mail from the Financial Aid and Awards Service if selected. 

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS 

February 1 – July 1: Offers for automatic scholarships are sent out on a rolling basis.

April 1: Deadline to firmly accept your offer of admission if an automatic scholarship was offered to you prior to March 18. You will receive an e-mail from the faculty if selected. 

March 1: Admission award applications usually open on this date. You do not have to accept your admission offer to apply. As soon as you are granted access to the portal, you may submit your application. 

May 1: Admission award applications usually close on this date. 

June 1 – July 30: Recipients are usually selected between this period. You will receive an e-mail from the faculty if selected. 

END-OF-YEAR PRIZES 

May 20 – June 15: Once grades for the academic year have been posted, the selection process begins and extends to mid-June. You will receive an e-mail from the faculty if selected.
