Le Centre de recherche en droit, technologie et société de l’Université d’Ottawa présente :

This event is centered around Cyber-Threats to Canadian Democracy, the first book to provide a comprehensive assessment of the cyber-threats to Canadian democracy and elections. It will examine how new technologies have reshaped Canadian democracy, evaluate what has been done to date in response, and set out what needs to happen to strengthen Canadian elections.

Dr. Holly Ann Garnett is an Associate Professor at the Royal Military Collage of Canada. Her research examines how electoral integrity can be strengthened throughout the electoral cycle, including the role of election management bodies, electoral assistance, voter registration, convenience voting measures, election technologies, civic literacy and campaign finance. She is a co-convener of the Electoral Management Network and contributes to the Electoral Integrity Project.  

Dr. Michael Pal is a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, and an Associate Professor within the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section at the University of Ottawa. His primarily researches the law of democracy, comparative constitutional law, and election law, and the intersection of technology and democracy. He has numerous publications relating to law, political science, and public policy, and is a frequent commentator in the media, including The Globe and Mail, CBC's The National and CTV National News.

Dr. Leah West is an Assistant Professor of International Affairs, National Security Law, Counterterrorism, Cyber Operations at The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carlton University. She previously served as Counsel with the Department of Justice in the National Security Litigation and Advisory Group. She has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court in designated proceedings and the Security Intelligence Review Committee. Before being called to the Ontario Bar in 2016, Leah clerked for the Honourable Justice Mosley of the Federal Court of Canada. Prior to attending law school, Leah served in the Canadian Armed Forces for ten years as an Armoured Officer; she deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
