Word from the Dean

Kristen Boon

March is Mois de la Francophonie, a time to celebrate the vitality and reach of the French language within our Faculty and beyond. At the Common Law Section, Francophonie is central to our identity.

Our commitment to bilingual, multijural legal education in the heart of the nation’s capital distinguishes us across Canada and internationally. Through the Programme de common law en français (PCLF), students have the rare opportunity to complete a rigorous common law degree entirely in French. The PCLF reflects our longstanding dedication to strengthening access to justice in Francophone minority communities and expanding opportunities for bilingual legal practice.

For nearly 50 years, the PCLF has helped train lawyers who serve communities across the country. Our National Program further broadens horizons, enabling civil law graduates to earn their JD in under a year.

I am also pleased to share that on March 10, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m., representatives of the University’s advisory committee on the Consultation on Francophonie will be present in Fauteux’s public spaces to speak with students. This consultation will help refine and update the University’s vision and mission with respect to the Francophonie. I encourage you to take part and share your perspective.

Thank you to our dedicated faculty, alumni and community partners who continue to ensure that Francophonie thrives at uOttawa.
