Word from the Dean

Kristen Boon

In today’s interconnected world, international law provides a framework to understand and address global challenges.

The uOttawa Faculty of Law is home to a large and dynamic group of globally-recognized international law scholars. We offer an extensive program of courses in this for JD students, as well as programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. Our students engage with this field through specialized courses, clinics, moots, and internships, preparing them for impactful careers in international organizations, governments, NGOs, and law firms around the world.

My own research focuses on state-owned entities, access to justice, and the law of immunities; issues that highlight how international law shapes fairness and accountability across borders.  In addition, several professors here including myself have served as Academic in Residence at Global Affairs Canada or elsewhere in government, providing a means to ensure the federal government is engaged in current research on international law.

If you’re curious about this area of law, please see some of the recent and upcoming work our experts are engaged in:

  • SIGN-UP: a student member of the American Society of International Law. ASIL student membership is free for uOttawa students and includes access to the ASIL job board and events. ASIL members can connect with a network of experts related to the selected field through the ASIL Interest Groups.
