There are numerous clerkship opportunities available at courts across the country. Clerking is a challenging and rewarding experience. While the work will vary from court to court and from Justice to Justice, students are generally given the opportunity to research and draft pre-hearing memoranda, edit judgments, draft post-hearing memoranda, and assist in writing papers and speeches.  The opportunities open to law clerks upon completing their clerkships vary – from working in law firms, to government, to graduate studies and more.  These positions are directed towards students with strong research, writing and communications skills.

The Legal Writing Academy can help! In the age of AI, learning the human skill of effective writing is more important than ever. Developing good writing skills WILL make you a better communicator in all areas of your work. Learn to distinguish yourself from the crowd with effective writing and communication skills. Our Writing Leaders are trained peer mentors who can help you with developing your legal writing skills. We offer 45-minute one-on-one appointments starting on October 1, 2026. Join the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) for an evening of networking!

FACL Ottawa and CABL NCR are hosting a Speed Networking Event for racialised legal professionals and law students in Ottawa.

Join us at the Three Brewers on October 21, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. This event is free and is graciously sponsored by Kelly Santini LLP.

Attendees will rotate through several rounds of networking chats to meet different people. FACL and CABLE will have "discussion facilitators" at the tables to help conversations along. Attendees also have time for casual networking to enjoy the food.

Alcohol will not be provided, though attendees can pay for their own drinks at the bar.

On October 8, 2028, Representatives from Gowling WLG Ottawa will host a presentation for students to gain insights on the legal landscape in Ottawa. In the evening, following the presentation there will be an opportunity to connect with lawyers from Gowling WLG that will be held at their Ottawa office (160 Elgin, Suite 2600). Did you know the CDC offers 3 legal mentorship programs? JurisMentor Program, Criminal Law Courthouse Mentorship Program and the Family Law Mentorship Program! 

The deadline to apply for these programs is Thursday October 1st at 1pm. Applications are accepted through the Mentorship Programs Webpage.

When the UO-Academic Integrity Training (ITD 1100-A00 or ITD 1500-A00) will appear in your course schedule in uoZone for the Fall 2026 term, please complete the module through Brightspace as soon as possible and no later than November 1st, 2026. The module takes approximately two hours to complete.
